2012 All-China Interpretation Contest in Beijing

Yes, I went to the capital of the PRC, Beijing last week. It's totally out of my imagination! Many people know that I'm an active opponent against autocracy, dictatorship, and communism.
Due to some complex political or historical factors, I didn’t really feel like flying across the Strait before. 

However, God always gave us things we didn’t expect. His perfect plans for us are way better than what we plan for ourselves. I’m not gonna fabricate a story about how excited I was to visit mainland China or how perfect and amazing this trip was. Well, this trip was indeed good, yet not as what you might think.

Replete with so many wonders, excitement and a tinge of unease, I started this amazing journey. I went to Beijing for the “National” final of “All-China Interpretation Contest”. I attended this contest on behalf of Taiwan with another prize-winner at the “2012 All-Taiwan Consecutive Interpretation Contest”. I did struggle whether to “dwarf” ourselves as the representatives of “Taiwan Province” or “Taiwan Area”. I finally decided to fly there, for I clearly understand the status quo across the Strait is way too sensitive and complicated which cannot be solved in a short time. Based on the so-called “One China, different interpretations” slogan, I’m willing to put aside all those sensitive issues and controversies. I knew the goal of this trip wasn’t sightseeing but to learn from those eminent people in this vast-growing country.

Upon arriving in Beijing, I saw throngs of people lining up in front of the Custom desks. It took me more than one hour to get out of the airport.. Finally experienced the vast amount of people in China… My friend’s father picked me up at the airport and drove me to the inn. I’m very lucky to know a local. He did bring me much convenience. It’s really a pity that I only got three days in Beijing, so I didn’t have enough time exploring this huge city. But I’d say the infrastructure, streets and buildings actually have nothing different from Taipei!! Even better. However, there’s still room for the enhancement of their “cultural quality”.

Three days passed rapidly! The interminable-like tests and contests finally came to an end. I’m a bit tired of “translating” or “interpreting”. I meant, doing too much translation in a short time can kill a person… After seeing the very positive and active attitude of those Chinese contestants, I have no pretexts to stop learning and mastering my English. Success is for those who are ready and willing to face challenges. Though studying is always arduous, the more we can learn from the drudgery, the more successful we can be in the future.
